A NEW DAWN
A new dawn is breaking
The light of a new day
Wakes me from a dream
In this dawn a new way
Wakes me to the truth
Wasn't facing my mortality
Hiding love in youthful eyes
Didn't want to look back at me
But now this new dawn is breaking
Inside it hides an inner peace
Brings this man up to the surface
Doesn't have to be anything
But what he is meant to be
Look out toward the sun
Rays of hope shine down on me
This new dawn has come
And I'm ready to be
One
Returning to my path
Of What I should have been
No more chasing after errant needs
Or the random desires of errant
Women
Wasted so much of my time
Trying to be good enough for "you"
That I lost myself for years and years
Though there was no reason to
I saw my own reflection
In a dawn that seeks to please me
In a light that's shining down
Only seeking to release me
In this Dawn I see such tasks
all the walls we could knock down
All the things that I could build
A new life in this new town
In the light of this new day
Feels like I'm born again
No more codependency
No more codependent man
I just get to settle in
Flashing poet builds his drums
Open myself up to a life
That's just begun at 41
