ACCEPTANCE

I cannot remember the last time

I was this happy

I don't think it's happened before

When we go to sleep it's like napping

Lounging and lingering

For hours and more

We hit the snooze button

Fifty times a day

Set aside so much time

Like it's ours to take

Lounge in the luxuries of each other

She trusts me -

And I'll always trust her

There's this kind of quiet

It's tangible and shared

It sometimes takes us over

We just look at each other

- And stare

Her eyes bleed into me

And my heart's spills out

Then the laughter comes

And our smiles abound

We've tried so hard at this before

Tried to share simple love

Find some one to adore

But it always got caught up in tragedy

In ragged, two legged, breathing maladies

Who lived in a state of enmity

And would treat our love as the enemy

But here is such a different place

Here in this constant place of safe

Where it's safe to wear thoughts

Right on our face

Where hopes become real

And dreams are laid plain

Deep breaths have become common

Sighs of relief are frequent

Like omens

They've become like drumbeats

- Like heartbeats

Breath has found

Regularity.

Intimacy.

Acceptance
