DISTRACTION
I want to like your liking
But I'm pretty sure
That would make me
Ambivalent
To all of it
I want to celebrate your news
And good tidings
But it's not quite celebration
If I click on it
I want to share
All my words
But for that -
I apparently need paper
For the only kind of things
On Facebook
Are Mr. White
Betty White
And Don Draper
And while they all teach us
A thing, or two
About our world
And all its confusion
They're largely lending
To the problem
For they offer no real
Solutions
Now don't think
I'm off on some tangent
For I'm certainly glad
That we have them
Celebrity smarts
Endless streams of memes
Tho' I'm not very keen
On high-fashion
Still within this realm
There's potential
If we focused more on
The essential
Like societal change
And the informative ways
We could use this new tool
Like a pencil
Sure the pen
Is mightier than the sword
But a pen doesn't have an eraser
And if we're ever to make
Legitimate change
We must first back ourselves
Out of this danger
Then maybe we could change our relation
To the way we have this conversation
Change the way things have all been neglected
With the fact that we're all now connected
Otherwise all that has happened
Is we've found yet another
Contraption
To keep us from health
And maligned to ourselves
With just another
Goddamn
