ON PURPOSE
I wonder if my words
Mean anything to you
I know they do to some
But they're only one or two
For the rest I could be better
Than all who' ve ever lived
But it really wouldn't matter
Cuz they've not one shit to give
It could be absolutely perfect
Or ironically, worthless
But please know - as you pass me by
I do all of this on purpose
Some like to feign ignorance
Some say they just don't care
But while you're talking -
I am listening
And you're completely unaware
I see the truth that lies in you
I hear the words you speak
I see the thoughts you try to hide
While you stuff them underneath
Mounds of words you throw around
As if they have no meaning
But in your mounds of hurried
words
Is your thoughts of which I'm gleaning
I see you as you spin around
Like some whirling dervish
But please know what I see in you
- You're doing that on purpose
You try to hide your intentions
And pretend you're someone else
Swear by your staunch conventions
But you're lying to yourself
For the truth you hide
You'll find in me
For I am your reflection
You can prattle on
Endlessly
But I'm the cause for your
Intentions
You can say you just don't care
You can say it's not that way
You can be coy and haughty
But that won't make me go away
You can say things forcefully
Trying to define some lost dimension
But your bullets whiz right past me
I'm not impressed with your pretension
The truth is the truth
No matter how you try to usurp it
And in the end it comes
No matter how you hope to divert it
You can try to change the subject
You can swear that you are earnest
But just know - that I know
You did it all of it on purpose
