FIRELIGHT
Yesterday was like forever
Like ever falling in a dream
The minutes turned to hours
Feeling stuck there in between
The evening I had spent with you
And the one about to come
You had left me struck with awe
And had left me all but dumb
The notion you were flawed
Your simple insecurities
Only brought to light, your beauty
And highlighted your maturity
You're a woman all in all
With still the longings of a girl
Who still hopes her knight will come
Sweep her up and change her world
Spent the day in limbo
In my hangover of you
And though I fought the day to pass
There was naught that I could do
And yet slowly seconds passed
Like the clink and clank of steel
Could hear the sound of second hands
As they turned around their wheel
Back-and-forth our interaction
Brought us closer to the eve
To the time when work would pass
To the time that I could leave!
Then I was off and racing home
Prepare the night 'fore your arrival
Set hard to every task
As if cause for my survival!
Then phone rings – you're on the way
Lost to smiles and resplendence
Like a child Christmas morn
Waiting eagerly for presents!
Then came lights, approaching car
Of my newest, dearest, friend to me
Then I was struck by Love again
You're even greater than my memory!
What comes next's another poem
And will take cover of the night
Will take the moon up high above me
Bathing in my firelight
