MARILYN
Went to the smoke shop today
It's a head shop but I call it a smokeshop anyway
Saw some girl
She was looking back at me
"Nice T-shirt"
That was her whole line
That's what she said to me
I looked around to see who she was talking to
But she was talking to me
Guess this T-shirt is pretty cool
She had Marilyn
Tattooed on her neck
Looking back at me
Marilyn was looking all her best
Funny how we can share these moments
With total strangers
Either way
They still feel honest
Life - something happens in fleeting moments
These things happen
When the strange comes upon us
Every where we turn
Is another connection
Just three dates away
From diehard affection
Doesn't matter which way we're going
Our heart and our blood
Is always flowing
None of these
Things are an anomaly
And that's because
We are one big family
Finished helping a friend move
Into a new domicile
Feeling introspective
I was thinking for a while
Stopped at the store
That we call "gross out"
There was another mommy
Who was seeing me - there's no doubt
She had Marilyn
On her shoulder
Crazy detail
I almost touched her
Saw her daughter
Staring right back at me
In this nuclear age
We are all nuclear families
This old sense
Of how things supposed to be
No longer really
Really mean anything
We are all subject
To our hearts
Like a harness
But sooner or later
They always keep us honest
Don't know what this sign is
Or what it means to me
But Marilyn
Please keep coming to me
Oh shit
I just looked at my T-shirt
Put it on in the dark
Now I'm smiling
It's absurd
Look into the mirror
Guess who's staring back at me
It's Marilyn
Guess I am the one
Who Started this whole thing
