OVER THERE

Fought the urge to write your poem

With you sitting there right next to me

Fought the urge to launch proposals

Though my silence felt like blasphemy

When our eyes lock on each other

And we stare at the other silently

I want to grab you by your hand

(Fall to my knees outside QT)

Yesterday we were at a truck stop

There was a wall of quarter machines

There was one for seventy five cents

Full of plastic diamond rings

I wondered if I'd offered

If three quarters were enough

To show you my intentions

And my long undying love

I need not rush for something

But I have this sense of urgency

That I somehow must express to you

How much I love you urgently

I'm reminded with each heartbeat

So I'm reminded of it constantly

You are the one I've always sought for

You're the one I came for stridently

It wasn't songs

It wasn't signs

It wasn't wonders

Or the planets

It was my strong

Belief in you

And the fact that you

Commanded it

You called me

Sent a message

Through the ether or the air

I heard it

I came running

And now we're both here

Over there
